Yemeni Muslim US Steel Worker to Get Job Bias, Harassment Trial

US Steel Corp. must face trial on whether it subjected a Michigan plant worker to discrimination and harassment because he’s Arab, Yemeni, and Muslim and retaliated against him for complaining about the bias, a federal judge ruled.

Evidence that the man experienced a hostile work environment includes his testimony that his manager and coworkers regularly called him “the shoe bomber” and a “terrorist” and mocked his bag, hairstyle, food, and accent, the US District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan said Monday. “His claims of harassment were corroborated” by other coworkers, who wrote letters stating they witnessed the manager ...
