Yanked Covid-19 Academic Recovery Funds Spur State AG Suit

The withdrawal by the Trump administration of academic recovery funds tied to the Covid-19 pandemic was challenged by a coalition of state attorneys general Thursday.

Funds that had already been allocated to support summer learning programs, after-school initiatives, support for students experiencing homelessness, mental health services, infrastructure upgrades, and more, are all in jeopardy, according to the complaint filed in the US District Court for the Southern District of New York.

California schools stand to lose the largest chunk of funding, with over $200 million at stake, the complaint said.
