Workday Defends AI, Software in Unconscious Hiring Bias Lawsuit

Workday Inc. tried to convince a federal judge Tuesday to dismiss a lawsuit alleging the artificial intelligence systems and tools the software company uses to assist businesses in hiring decisions illegally screened out Black, older, and disabled job applicants.

The company, which produces financial planning, payroll, and human resources services, argues that plaintiff Derek Mobley’s suit “attempts to turn a software provider into an employment agency” by seeking to hold it accountable for decisions its customers made.
