Wisconsin’s private and technical college race-based scholarship system seeking to diversify higher education is unconstitutional, the state Supreme Court ruled Thursday.
All seven members of the high court supported a ruling that the state’s system violates modern understandings of the Fourteenth Amendment under the US Supreme Court’s 2023 landmark decision prohibiting Harvard’s admission practices that weighed applicants in-part based on their race.
Yet the elected justices showed cracks in concurrences, foreshadowing future issues for a bench that will hold a liberal majority for years to come.
