White Athletic Director Lacks Bias Suit Over Administration Jobs

A White athletic director in South Bend, Ind., failed to show his race caused him to be passed over for two administration jobs in favor of a Black applicant.

William Groves claimed he was so much more qualified than Seabe Gavin for both jobs that reverse discrimination could have been the only reason he didn’t get them. But Groves lacked evidence the South Bend Community School Corporation’s explanation that Gavin outperformed Groves during interviews was pretextual, the US Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit said.
