Whirlpool Suit Alleges Hamilton Beach Mixers Falsely Advertised

Hamilton Beach Brands Inc.'s claim that “its cheap, knock-off stand mixer” has the same mixing action as Whirlpool Corp.'s KitchenAid is false advertising under federal and Virginia law, a lawsuit says.

Whirlpool says that it learned that Hamilton Beach tells consumers that some of its stand mixers have the same “planetary mixing” as the more expensive KitchenAid, and provides “complete bowl coverage,” according to the complaint filed in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia. The claims are prominent on Hamilton Beach packaging and in advertising, the complaint says.
