West Point is barred for now from enforcing a policy against civilian faculty requiring professors to obtain prior approval before participating in external speaking engagements when their affiliation to the academy is mentioned.
The US Military Academy and top officials failed to show that any of their alleged interests to support the speech restriction “are real harms to the Academy, rather than post-hoc rationalizations for the policy,” Judge Cathy Seibel of the US District Court for the Southern District of New York said Tuesday in granting a preliminary injunction.
