Former ice hockey player Wayne Gretzky is facing a multimillion-dollar lawsuit by a former manager and investor in gum distributor BuChew LLC, alleging Gretzky fraudulently asserted he lost 35 pounds chewing the company’s OMG gum.
BuChew founder Steven Sparks alleges he was “substantially harmed” by Gretzky’s misrepresentations because he reinvested money and services in BuChew based on the statement and repeated it to potential investors, according to the complaint filed Monday in California Superior Court.
Gretzky’s “motivation for misrepresenting the truth was to increase the value of BuChew’s stock which he surreptitiously purchased under his family’s name,” Sparks alleges.
