Walmart Notches Partial Early Win in Covid-Screening Pay Dispute

Walmart is free of some allegations in a wage suit stemming from the company’s Covid-19 screening policies after a federal judge granted partial summary judgment.

Walmart Inc. and Wal-Mart Associates Inc. must still defend state-law claims for post-screening pay, but the superstore won’t have to face the workers’ record-keeping claim or pay treble damages for any wage violations, the US District Court for the District of Arizona said Monday.

Workers accuse Walmart—which instituted an automatic award of five extra minutes of pay to cover Covid-19 screening time—of repeatedly stiffing them on pay for the time after they completed the screenings ...
