Tyson Sued Over Deal for 100 Million Pounds of Wholesale Chicken

Tyson Foods Inc. backed out of a deal costing grocery brands like ShopRite at least $22 million when the meat company increased prices, according to a lawsuit filed by co-op Wakefern Food Corp.

Tyson balked on its promise to supply wholesale chicken through fall 2025, the complaint filed Tuesday in the US District Court for the District of New Jersey says. The co-op, which includes brands like PriceRite and Fresh Grocer, said Tyson stopped delivering chicken last month after unilaterally demanding a price increase above the companies’ contract.
