A proposed class action lawsuit against American Airlines Inc. from ex-employees alleging the company owes unpaid wages will stay in federal court, a federal judge ruled, denying the workers’ request to move it back to state court.
The federal court has jurisdiction over the lawsuit, Judge Janis L. Sammartino, of the US District Court for the Southern District of California, said, because the amount sought exceeds the $5 million requirement set by a federal statute, the Class Action Fairness Act, that governs where class actions should be litigated.
