Virginia Business Owner Gets 80 Months for Employment Tax Crimes

A former business owner in Virginia was sentenced to 80 months in prison for not accounting for and paying employment taxes, the Justice Department said Thursday.

Richard Moore, the executive vice president and part owner of Nexus Services Inc., was responsible for withholding Social Security, Medicare, and income taxes from employees’ wages and paying those funds to the IRS.

However, for many quarters from 2015 to 2024, Moore withheld the funds but didn’t actually pay them over to the IRS or file the required returns, causing a tax loss of approximately $3.1 million, the DOJ said. Instead, he spent millions ...
