The Department of Homeland Security must reopen online registration for temporary immigration protections for hundreds of thousands of Venezuelans after the agency’s website registration form was down, a San Francisco federal court ruled Thursday.
Sept. 10 was the last day for Venezuelan migrants to re-register for Temporary Protected Status, granting them temporary immigration and employment authorization, but the website was inoperable for a 12-hour period for technical reasons.
Judge Edward M. Chen at a hearing Thursday said DHS must reopen registration by 5 p.m. eastern time Friday and keep it open for a 24-hour period.
