Vape Battery Burn Lawsuit Against LG Chem Must Stay in Texas

South Korea’s LG Chem Ltd. must defend in Texas a lawsuit accusing it of making and selling defective a 18650 lithium-ion battery that exploded in a man’s pocket.

The company challenged the case on jurisdictional grounds, saying that the company isn’t based in the state nor does is it registered to do business there. It also denied that it ever sought to serve a Texas consumer market for stand alone batteries.

Wednesday’s ruling by the Texas Court of Appeals, Fifth District, affirmed the trial court’s judgment against LG Chem.
