Utah’s law requiring app stores to verify users’ ages was challenged in a lawsuit brought by the Computer & Communications Industry Association asking a federal court to declare it unconstitutional.
Senate Bill 142 requires app stores to use commercially available methods to verify the ages of accountholders, places parental consent requirements on accounts owned by people under 18, and requires app developers to verify users’ ages based on their own data and information from the app store, according to the complaint filed Thursday in the US District Court for the District of Utah.
