USA Cinemas Beats Suit Over Sharing Movie Ticket Info With Meta

USA Cinema Investments Holding Inc. and its website operator California Cinema Investments LLC defeated a proposed class action alleging they shared the movie-watching information of consumers with Meta Platforms Inc. in violation of the Video Privacy Protection Act.

Plaintiff Michael Walsh failed to show that USA Cinema and California Cinema met the VPPA’s definition of a “video tape service provider,” a requirement for stating a claim under the act, Judge Otis D. Wright II of the US District Court for the Central District of California said Monday.
