US Urges Appeals Court to Allow National Guard Troops in LA

The US Department of Justice urged a federal appeals court to overturn a lower court’s order that limits the Trump administration’s use of National Guard troops in Los Angeles in response to protests over the president’s immigration raids.

Lawyers for the administration said in a Monday court filing that the federal government needs to be able to direct troops in the city to protect federal personnel and property from harm amid protests, because local law enforcement “were unable or unwilling to effectively quell the violence.”
