US Sues to Stop New York Woman From Preparing Tax Returns

The US on Friday filed a complaint in federal court against Kaelima Melendez, a tax preparer doing business as Tax Hub, alleging that she repeatedly prepared fraudulent tax returns for customers that understated their tax liabilities in order to generate improper refunds.

Melendez engaged in a variety of fraudulent practices, including falsely claiming customers were heads of household or had dependents to qualify for credits, fabricating Schedule C business income and expenses, and improperly claiming education and other credits, according to the complaint filed in the US District Court for the Southern District of New York.
