The lawyers who represented the US women’s soccer team in its landmark pay discrimination lawsuit against the US Soccer Federation Inc. will get $5.5 million in fees out of the team’s $24 million settlement.
That’s $1.1 million less than the $6.6 million in attorneys’ fees class counsel sought for work on the March 2019 case. Though the litigation ultimately proved successful for the team, it wasn’t quite the exceptional outcome heralded by class counsel, the US District Court for the Central District of California said Wednesday.
