US Seeks to Revive Indictment Over PDVSA Bribes at Fifth Circuit

Federal prosecutors sought to convince the Fifth Circuit at oral arguments on Friday that the government didn’t violate the rights to a speedy trial of a foreign national accused of conspiring to bribe Petróleos de Venezuela SA officials.

It is the second time the government has appealed the US District Court for the Southern District of Texas’s dismissal of the indictment with prejudice. This time, the dismissal was based on alleged violations of Paulo Jorge Da Costa Casqueiro Murta’s right to a speedy trial.
