US, NY Demolition Contractor Settle Lead Paint Safety Dispute

A New York demolition company will pay $100,000 over allegations it failed to follow lead-safe work practices required by law, the US government said.

Rose Demolition & Carting Inc. failed to comply with the EPA’s Renovation, Repair, and Painting Rule at 668 renovation projects presumed to have lead paint, according to the proposed consent decree filed Monday in the US District Court for the Southern District of New York.

The contractor failed to sufficiently notify the public or occupants about its work, adequately contain construction dust, and employ the necessary certified renovators for its projects, according to the decree.
