The Justice Department is backing an Ohio law requiring those registering to vote when obtaining a driver’s license to provide documented proof that they’re a US citizen, as election advocates sue to block it.
The DOJ’s statement of interest comes while President Donald Trump continues to push baseless claims that voter fraud has swayed elections in recent years, including his 2020 loss to President Joe Biden, and that fraud could be a major problem in November’s midterm elections.
