UPMC Reaches Deal With Ex-Worker to End Disability Bias Lawsuit

UPMC Pinnacle Hospitals settled claims that it fired an imaging manager due to his back pain and requested accommodations, rather than the fact that he failed a drug test.

Judge Karoline Mehalchick on Monday stayed the case after the parties notified the US District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania that a settlement was reached. David Rheem agreed to take a drug test after UPMC leadership claimed he held a staff meeting with subordinates, during which he allegedly talked about consuming gummies and appeared lethargic and over-medicated.
