The University of Pennsylvania must pay a female professor $382,784 in back pay, front pay, interest, and a tax offset, on top of the $1 million a jury awarded her for job retaliation, a federal judge ruled.
The US District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania’s Tuesday addition to the jury’s Feb. 10 compensatory damages award to Cathrine Veikos brings her tally to nearly $1.4 million. The jury found that UPenn denied Veikos tenure in 2012 because she had complained that gender bias caused her not to be granted tenure in 2011, according to the verdict sheet.
