More than a dozen conservative states and a home builders association on Thursday sued the federal Housing and Agriculture departments for adopting updated energy efficiency standards for the construction of agency-financed housing.
The revised standards will impose additional costs on low-income home buyers, several states and the National Association of Home Builders said in their complaint filed with the US District Court for the Eastern District of Texas.
However, the Agriculture Department and the Department of Housing and Urban Development issued a notice of final determination in April saying the latest round of updates won’t negatively affect affordability.
