A former student and a former employee of the University of Minnesota have voluntarily dismissed their proposed class action over a July data breach in federal court in Minnesota because they intend to file the dispute in state court.
Geoff Dittberner and Mary Wint alleged that the university failed to implement adequate procedures to protect their sensitive information and that of more than 7 million student applicants, job applicants, patients in the University of Minnesota health system, and others.
The plaintiffs filed a notice of voluntary dismissal Nov. 13 in the US District Court for the District of Minnesota.
