The EEOC failed to prove a female University of Miami political science professor was paid less than a similar male professor because she is a woman, a federal jury in Florida decided Friday.
Louise Davidson-Schmich wasn’t paid a lower wage than a male professor for doing equal work and thus the University of Miami didn’t violate the Equal Pay Act, the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida jury said. Also Davidson-Schmich’s sex wasn’t a motivating factor that prompted the university to pay her less money than a male professor, the jury held.
