University of Chicago Medical Beats Class Claims in Wiretap Suit

The University of Chicago Medical Center lost its bid to toss a wiretapping lawsuit alleging it disclosed patients’ data to Meta Platforms Inc. without their consent, but succeeded in shedding the lawsuit’s class claims.

The class action waiver in the medical center’s terms of service applied to lead plaintiff Sophia Hartley’s lawsuit despite the fact that she filed it 10 months before the effective date of the terms of service agreement, Judge Georgia N. Alexakis of the US District Court for the Northern District of Illinois said Wednesday.
