The University of Michigan is immune from suit for to its role in the pre-season medical care and screening of Zena “Zeke” Upshaw, a minor league player who collapsed during a game in March 2018 and died at the age of 26, the Western District of Michigan ruled.
Upshaw was playing for the Detroit Pistons’ National Basketball Association’s G League team, the Grand Rapids Drive, when he suffered the sudden and fatal cardiac event.
