United of Omaha Sued Over Data Breach Affecting 107,000 People

United of Omaha Life Insurance Co. failed to protect the personal information of thousands of people that was exposed in an April data breach, a proposed federal class action said.

Jawaun Viverette alleged that United of Omaha breached its duties under common law, industry standards, and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act to implement reasonable and adequate data security measures, and failed to provide timely and adequate notice of the incident.

Information exposed in the breach included names, addresses, dates of birth, driver’s license numbers, health-insurance policy numbers, Social Security numbers, employment information, and health information, according to a ...
