United Healthcare Loses Appeal to Recoup $2 Million From Clinic

United Healthcare of Texas is stuck with a $24,000 settlement of a more than $2 million debt a men’s health clinic allegedly owed the insurer because a representative failed to open a letter in time and stop the company from cashing the check, a state appeals court said.

There’s evidence that the United representative was aware that the clinic was sending a settlement proposal, and if he had exercised due diligence, he would’ve been able to stop the company’s contractor from automatically cashing the check, the Texas Court of Appeals, Second District, said Thursday.
