A UnitedHealth Group Inc. subsidiary has agreed to pay just over $1.4 million to settle claims that it denied insurance coverage for certain types of experimental mental health treatment services.
The settlement amount, which includes 33.3% for the attorneys and payouts of between $937 and about $18,700 per class member, is “fair, reasonable, and adequate,” said Judge Mae A. D’Agostino of the US District Court for the Northern District of New York. The judge granted final approval to the deal in a Monday order in which she dismissed the case with prejudice.
