The labor union Unite Here has agreed to pay $6 million to settle a proposed class action alleging it negligently failed to protect the personal information of more than 790,000 people that was exposed in a 2023 data breach.
Class members would be eligible for reimbursement for out-of-pocket expenses attributable to the incident, a pro-rata cash payment, credit monitoring, and equitable relief in the form of data security enhancements implemented by the union, according to the plaintiffs’ motion for final approval of the deal filed Monday at the US District Court for the Southern District of New York.
