Umami Burger Chain Settles Trademark Case Against Umami Fries

Gourmet burger chain Umami Burger has settled its Oklahoma federal case against a restaurant called “Umami Fries” for allegedly infringing its trademarks by using its name to sell similar foods.

Umami Burger, which began in Los Angeles and has numerous locations throughout the U.S., sued Umami Fries in October 2020. The defendant, which had locations in Tulsa and Minneapolis at the time the complaint was filed, was accused of infringement for calling its burgers “Umami Burgers” and because “burgers and fries are inextricably related in American culture.”
