Substantial evidence supported a medical peer review body’s determination that one of its members violated federal law and its medical staff bylaws by accessing and sharing a patient’s records with an outside doctor, a California appeals court said.
Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center’s administrative appeal board properly imposed a suspension, fine, and medical ethics educational requirement on Brian Koos, the California Court of Appeal, Second District, said in affirming a judgment upholding the board’s decision. The evidence considered by the board supported its conclusion that Koos’ assertion that he acted properly lacked credibility, it said.
