Uber Executive Says App Is a Service for Drivers, Not Employer

Uber Technologies Inc. is a platform that provides services for two types of customers: drivers and riders, an executive for the company testified Wednesday in a Massachusetts state court trial, as Uber sought to show that its drivers aren’t the company’s employees.

Customer service, pricing, matching, and payment processing, and other elements of “the underlying technology that allows drivers to be connected with riders,” are all services Uber provides drivers via the app, Chad Dobbs, Uber’s director of US city operations, testified in Massachusetts Superior Court, Suffolk County in the third week of the trial.
