A federal judge expressed skepticism Tuesday that a woman who accused Uber Technologies Inc. of creating an opportunity for predators posing as drivers to sexually assault passengers, could overcome a California appellate ruling that the company wasn’t liable for the actions of imposters.

Judge Jacqueline Scott Corley of the US District Court for the Northern District of California, took under advisement arguments that the ridehailing company owed a duty of care to protect riders.
