Uber Cleared of Liability for Fake Drivers Assaulting Women (1)

Uber Technologies Inc. won’t have to defend against claims it was liable for passengers who got into fake Uber vehicles and were sexually assaulted, as the California Supreme Court declined to review an appellate ruling in its favor.

The Justices, during their weekly meeting Wednesday, denied a petition three Jane Does filed asking for review of the appeals court ruling upholding dismissal. A Los Angeles trial court dismissed the women’s lawsuit on Uber’s motion, finding the ride-hailing company didn’t have a special relationship with the victims and wasn’t liable for the assaults.
