Tyson Foods Agrees to Historic $85 Million Pork Price Settlement

Tyson Foods Inc. agreed to pay consumer plaintiffs $85 million to resolve claims it worked with competitors to increase pork prices in one of the largest proposed pork price-fixing settlements filed Wednesday.

The deal would bring the total recovery for the consumer indirect purchaser class to nearly $208 million, according to the motion for preliminary approval of the class settlement filed in the US District Court for the District of Minnesota.

The consumers sued more than seven years ago and said pork processors improperly stabilized the price and supply of pork through Agri Stats, production restraints, and slaughter reductions.
