Trump Sues New Jersey Over Order Barring ICE From State Property

The Trump administration urged a district court Monday to block New Jersey Gov. Mikie Sherrill’s executive order prohibiting federal immigration officers from state-owned property, claiming it flouts the US Constitution.

The new lawsuit comes as the US wages legal challenges against states’ attempts at curbing federal immigration enforcement. The Trump administration received temporary relief from both a district court and the Ninth Circuit after they deemed California’s laws banning most law enforcement officers from wearing face coverings and requiring them to identify themselves are likely unlawful.
