The Trump administration must stop requiring states to screen the legal status of people looking to use domestic violence shelters, soup kitchens, and other services, a federal district court said.

A coalition of Democratic Party-led states are likely to succeed on the merits of their claims that the Trump administration is violating both the Administrative Procedure Act and the spending clause, Judge Mary S. McElroy said Wednesday for the US District Court for the District of Rhode Island. The states’ motion for a preliminary injunction was therefore granted.
