Two banks—Truist Financial and BMO—were hit with lawsuits alleging their use of third party online trackers violated the privacy rights of California residents.
The suits focus on trackers from Facebook, Google, and Trade Desk, among others, calling them pen registers or trap and trace devices under the state’s Invasion of Privacy Act. Both suits were filed Wednesday in the US District Court for the Central District of California.
John Tasker, a California resident, alleges the tracking pixels they use contribute to “a vast and interconnected digital advertising ecosystem” that can monetize personal information.
