Trucker Misclassification Settlement Wins Judge’s Approval

United Road Services Inc.'s $7.5 million settlement with California drivers who alleged they were employees, not independent contractors, received final approval from a federal judge over the objections of the driver who initially filed the suit.

Drivers for URS had to sign an agreement that classifies them as independent contractors, but the plaintiffs said they acted as employees and were thus entitled to applicable labor protections under state law.
