The federal government asked a judge to sentence SCOTUSblog co-founder Tom Goldstein to 97 months in prison in for his tax and mortgage fraud crimes.
The roughly eight-year sentence would be at the upper end of the government’s guidelines range, but Goldstein’s conduct deserves a punishment on the harsher end of the spectrum, prosecutors said in a filing Tuesday, calling his decision to commit the crimes “coldly calculated” and his attempts to conceal his conduct “brazen.”
Prosecutors are also seeking $3.1 million in restitution, based on what Goldstein would have paid, with interest, had he not hid nearly $5 million ...
