GEO Group’s Denied Re-Hearing for Injunction Decried by Judges

A group of mostly Trump-appointed Ninth Circuit judges rebuked the court’s decision not to re-hear The GEO Group Inc.'s failed bid to shield it from a Washington state law meant to protect local immigration detainees.

Not granting en banc review and affirming the preliminary injunction “ignores both our circuit precedent and common sense,” Judge Patrick J. Bumatay said for eight dissenting judges with the US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. Seven of the judges were appointed by President Donald Trump, with the eighth being an appointee of former President George W. Bush.
