Tinder Age Bias Settlement Gets Axed Over Class Representative

Dating app Tinder’s settlement of class action claims by California subscribers over its alleged practice of charging 30-and-over users almost twice as much for premium subscriptions was vacated by the Ninth Circuit because it said the lead plaintiff isn’t an adequate class representative.

The agreement approved by the US District Court for the Central District of California required Tinder to commit to a $5.2 million cash settlement fund. Upending the district court’s approval, the US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit said plaintiff Lisa Kim had a conflict of interest with other class members.
