The Sixth Circuit on Friday refused to revive a libertarian-leaning Michigan think tank’s lawsuit against the federal government over its Covid-19 pandemic-era decision to forgive three years worth of student loan interest.
The Mackinac Center for Public Policy didn’t show it had the authority to sue over the interest forgiveness from the administrations of Presidents Donald Trump and Joe Biden, the Cincinnati-based appeals court said. The think tank failed to prove standing both under theories of being economically injured and being harmed through competition, Judge Andre B. Mathis wrote.
