The Athletic and Owner New York Times Sued Over Video Privacy

The Athletic Media Co. disclosed the video-viewing information of subscribers to its streaming-video service to Meta Platforms Inc. and other third parties without their consent in violation of the Video Privacy Protection Act, a proposed federal class action said.

Davin Coppedge, Max Theriault, and Estaban Cuesta alleged that The Athletic and its owner the New York Times Co. installed online tracking tools provided by Meta, Google LLC, X Corp., and TikTok Inc. on its website and apps, allowing the third parties to collect their personal viewing histories.
