A federal judge declined to grant an injunction sought by students who participated in pro-Palestine protests, although he said an executive order from Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) requiring public universities to address acts of antisemitism on campuses likely violates free speech protections.
The injunction, requested to keep the universities from implementing policies to comply with Abbott’s order, “is not narrowly tailored to the specific definition and examples of antisemitism incorporated into the policies,” Judge Robert Pitman of the US District Court for the Western District of Texas wrote in an opinion Monday.
