Texas Woman’s University Professor Ends Suit Over ‘Woke’ Speech

A former Texas Woman’s University professor dropped allegations that she’s been denied emeritus status because she criticized “woke” ideology.

Vivian Casper filed a notice of voluntary dismissal Feb. 13 in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Texas. Casper’s department allegedly came out in favor of “woke” ideology"—which Casper defines as “being alert to and concerned about social injustice and discrimination"—with which she disagrees. Casper was suspended in 2022 for allegedly violating university policies after she told Ashley Bender, now her department chair, to “read more” in response to a statement Bender made that Casper said exhibited “woke ...
